Issue Addressed
When I open the Backup/Merge window, I receive a message, "Error occurred initializing security. Execution ending".

This message has been seen occasionally from a small percentage of our customers, even though RTS and the RTS Print run without a problem. What we are dealing with is 3 separate executables; RTS.exe, RTSPrint.exe, and RTSBackupMerge.exe. At this stage of our product line, RTS.exe and RTSPrint.exe (Version 4.x.x.x) are reading/writing through a driver called the BDE Administrator. The RTSBackupMerge (Version 5.x.x.x) is using a more common up-to-date driver called ADO, a newer industry standard. In time, the RTS.exe and RTSPrint.exe will be modified to use the ADO driver as well.

Causes of Issue
When this message appears, it is a problem with the RTSBackupMerge.exe reading/writing to a MS Access database. Up to this point, it has always been an improper installation of the MDAC drivers, a driver that is loaded by Windows. Because the issue is based on an external installation, it is possible to have the problem appear on one computer, but not another, even if they are identical computers.

Solution to this Issue
We first need to re-install/repair the MDAC installation to cure the problem. This process will differ based on the Windows operating system and version of Windows on the computer. If you have an IS person available, you may want to issue a ticket and allow them to make the repair.

Windows XP, Service Pack 2:

1. Open the Windows Control Panel and choose the System icon. In the General Tab, verify that your System is loaded with Microsoft Windows XP, Service Pack 2.
2. With Service Pack 2 installed on the computer, the MDAC can be reinstalled and repaired by following this set of instructions.
3. Locate the Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD, which may be needed for this repair.
4. Locate the file mdac.inf in C:Windowsinfmdac.inf.
5. Right click on install
6. You will then need to Browse to a path that includes the file adcjavas.inc.
a. This may be located in C:Windowsservicepackfilesi386.
b. The file will be located in the Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD is file is not found on the hard drive.
7. When prompted for the CD, either load the CD or point to the file C:i386 (if it exists).
8. At this point, the re-install/repair will be performed to the MDAC dirvers.

Windows XP, Service Pack 2 NOT installed

1. Open the Windows Control Panel and choose the System icon. In the General Tab, verify that your System is loaded with Microsoft Windows XP and Service Pack 2 does NOT appear in the entry.
2. Download the MDAC 2.8 drivers from Microsoft. The current address that was used to direct you to this site is
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=6c050fe3-c795-4b7d-b037-185d0506396c&displaylang=en
a. As web addresses can change, you can perform an internet search with the content Download Details MDAC
3. Microsofts download page will display instructions for downloading and updating the MDAC 2.8 driver.
4. NOTE: This update will NOT be effective for a Windows XP, Service Pack 2, and Service Pack 2, as this has already loaded an updated version of the MDAC drivers.

Windows 2000

1. Perform the steps given in Windows XP, Service Pack2 NOT Installed.
